A network rather like a distributed bulletin board, consisting of over 20,000 separate forums. Each forum is called a newsgroup, and these are arranged in a hierarchy, e.g. soc.culture.israel and soc.culture.british; see http://www.dejanews.com/ for a web interface to Usenet.
